Hello EV drivers in the Davis area

As you may know, Davis is receiving a grant to install new chargers around the town. This page is to keep you informed of what's happening with this grant.

This is an opportunity to have some state of the art chargers in Davis (for example, Electrify America) especially at corridor locations. These chargers can support the next generation of EVs with much larger batteries.

Here are some events that have already taken place:

  • First discussion at the Utilities Commission meeting
  • Second discussion at the Utilities Commission meeting

Here are some upcoming events

  • Discussion at the City Council meeting (date unknown)
  • Request for quotation is going out to charging consultant candidates

Note that the Utilities Commission and the City Council are very pro-EV. However, they may not have the detailed information about various charging options that we EV drivers are aware of. For this reason I prepared a short booklet that describes some of these options.

The Utilities Commission has expressed a desire to hear from the grassroots DEVA membership on this issue. My main recommendations in the booklet are

  1. Install at least two new generation chargers at corridor locations.
  2. In the downtown business area, instead of high power chargers, install smaller units (approx 6.6 to 24 kW) to encourage foot traffic.
  3. (Optional) In the Davis City Hall area, install mid-size chargers (approx 50 kW) for visitors to City Hall and for downtown residents.

Please download the booklet (see link below) and provide your feedback.
